The guide

Picking your writing stack

  1. Start with one general AI assistant. Free student years on the big assistants are common — pick one as your daily driver for drafting, feedback and explanations instead of paying for several.
  2. Add a checker that lives where you write. A grammar and style tool in your browser or editor catches what you stop seeing after the third re-read.
  3. Research-heavy major? An answer engine with citations plus a document-Q&A tool for PDFs turns a reading list into something you can interrogate.
  4. Talk faster than you type? Transcription and dictation deals on this shelf cover lectures, interviews and first drafts.

About this shelf

Writing & Research deals, explained

This shelf covers student discounts on writing and research tools: general AI assistants, research and answer engines with citations, grammar and style checkers, paraphrasing helpers, document Q&A for working through PDFs, and transcription for lectures and interviews. It's the shelf for every stage of a paper — reading, drafting, editing, and citing.

Many of the strongest deals here are free student years on AI assistants — the labs compete hard for students, which works in your favor. The rest are honest discounts on the editing and research tools you'd otherwise pay monthly for. A solid stack is one assistant, one checker, and whatever your major's reading load demands.

Two honest notes. First, how you use AI in graded work is governed by your university's rules — these tools are listed for the legitimate work they do (research, editing, organizing, transcribing), and what's allowed in an assessed essay differs by course. Second, every deal is checked by hand, each deal page shows when, and terms can change without notice — the official page is always the source of truth.

Common questions

Before you sign up

5 ANSWERS
Will using AI writing tools get me in trouble at university?
It depends entirely on how you use them and on your course's rules. Grammar checking, research, summarizing your own notes and transcribing lectures are normal study work; submitting generated text as your own usually isn't. When in doubt, your course policy beats anything written here.
What's the difference between an AI assistant and an answer engine?
An assistant is conversational and works with what you give it — drafting, rewriting, explaining. An answer engine searches and cites sources, which is what you want when claims need references.
Are these tools free for students or just discounted?
Mixed. Free student years on the big assistants come and go; checkers and niche tools more often offer percentage discounts. The price column on each row shows which is which.
Do I need a university email address to claim these?
Often but not always — many deals run through a student-check service that also accepts enrollment documents. Each deal page lists exactly what its check asks for.
Can I stack several of these deals at once?
Yes — the deals are independent of each other. The only limits are per-tool: one student plan per person, re-confirmed on the tool's own schedule.
